Buskey Cider opened its Cape Charles tasting room in 2018, two years after launching in Richmond, VA. Their ciders tend to be dry in comparison to most, and their craft techniques are drawn as much from wine-making and bourbon distilling as from more typical beer and cider manufacture.
In Cape Charles, their location in the old bus station offers 16 ciders and a lounge feel, marrying the historical and hip. Their ciders stand out from the crowd with a fresh, light apple tartness with notes of champagne, pear, mild earth, or vanilla. All are smooth and pair well with food.
Jalapeño Lime Cider. Manzana Lager Cider. Buskey TartCherry. Orange Ginger. Stout. Rose Petal Lemon. Bourbon Cider. Summer Shandy. The offerings at Buskey (available in flights for tasting) vary seasonally and with whims of craftsmen and clients alike, often with local herbs and fruits providing accents and depth.
William Correll, founder and CEO of Buskey Cider, won the $10,000 start-up prize at Start!Peninsula at CNU in 2013, paving the way for the creation of Buskey. Celebrating apples from Virginia has been a mission for Correll, but Buskey also incorporates other fresh fruits and herbs into a dazzling array of easily drinkable ciders.
