Quail Cove Farms began in 1991 as an organic farm in Machipongo, specializing in sweet potatoes. They have since expanded to produce other organic vegetables and opened a grocery store near the farm offering poultry, meats, cheeses, grains, pastas, and many other organic products, some from Amish country.
Locals still pinch themselves at the good fortune to have a store of Quail Cove’s calibre in Machipongo. An amazing selection of fresh, delicious food is always available - nothing shipped from half way around the world.
Quail Cove’s bulk products, produce, and other delectables can be ordered online and delivered within a two-hour radius. For the full experience, a stroll through their retail space, just off Lankford Highway, is necessary. If traveling through, pick up a cooler!
Quail Cove is an excellent source for the coveted regional specialty, the Hayman Sweet Potato. This pale-fleshed tuber appeared in the mid-1800s on the Eastern Shore. Rumor has it that a sea captain brought it home after a voyage. It is now unknown anywhere else on Earth. The flavor is often described as both nutty and creamy; the cooked potato has bluish or green tones.
