Kurt and Sally Lewin of Windsor House hand-craft Windsor chairs and settees using the same methods and tools employed in the 18th century. Each is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Windsor House also sells antiques and hand-made, unique cutting boards, tables, settees, stools, shucking bars, vanities, cupboards, folk art signs, primitive wall and floor art, and other furniture.
Opened in 2003, Windsor House is a place of pure passion. As do so many artists and artisans, the Lewins found that the pace of life on the Eastern Shore lends itself to creativity. Since 2005, they have shared their expertise with apprentices and students, who learn the craft of chair-making with period tools and methods.
In addition to building reproduction chairs in any Wind-sor style—bird cage, sawn arm, rod back, and others—Lewin can design and create unique chairs for clients. Custom tables of many kinds are also offered, including natural-edge dining tables made from recovered and repurposed wood.
To the Lewins, each piece of wood tells a tale and can have a purpose. With the right coaxing, old walnut planks become unique cutting boards or end tables. Says Sally: “Anything is possible here, so come on in and share your dreams with us and we’ll help you make them a reality!”
