Louise Orlando of the Bakery on Mason produces delicious, country-style rustic breads. All the breads are made and shaped by hand using wild Eastern Shore yeast. No two loaves look alike, but they are all delicious. Available at the store on Mason and Chatham Vineyards.
Each loaf from The Bakery is distinctive. Shown (above) are Kalamata Olive Sourdough and (below) Blue Cheese & Walnut Sourdough. Market offerings include a delicious variety of naturally leavened sourdough.
Orlando moved from San Francisco to Virginia’s Eastern Shore in 2002 and couldn’t find good, locally baked bread. She decided to remedy the situation and began baking, eventually selling her goods at Farmer's markets, then opening her bakery in Cape Charles.
Baked on stone slabs, Orlando’s breads have a perfect, almost singed crust. No artificial preservatives are ever used, and local organic farms supply ingredients for many recipes. Orlando has even incorporated wine from Chatham Vineyards into a specialty bread.
